“Make the time to take the time, not just for others but for yourselves.” - A December to Remember by Jennifer Bayliss

I was lucky to receive an Uncorrected Proof of this one from NetGalley.

Okay, so, I started this book December 1, 2023 + finished it on January 6, 2024. It has taken me awhile but I am finally here to say that this does count toward my 2024 goal. Phew. Okay. Now that that admission is out of the way, I’d love to talk about this deeper-than-expected Holiday romance by Jennifer Bayliss. I am a sucker for the seasonal read but I also crave depth, good writing + substance. Too much fluff is like using cotton balls for snow. I want the crunch, the iciness, the dirt after it has been laying for a day. You get me? Jennifer didn’t disappoint. This story was part scavenger hunt, part family drama with a hefty dose of love but not just of the romantic variety. Readers were told tales of motherly love, love of one’s community + surroundings, love of what one does with a life + what it means to love oneself. It’s also a great reminder that our loved ones may know us better than we give them credit for. Rowan Thorp, the town in which this story is set, gave off major Stars Hollow vibes which also didn’t hurt my interest level. Whether you read Christmas books all year long or wait until its a vibe + a whole aesthetic, you’ll want to add this one to your list. It’s funny, it’s hopeful, it’s sweet + heart-warming while giving you plenty to take away + think about in regards to your own life.
